JAQ Custom Projects started in 2022 but the experience behind it started two decades earlier.

Founder Devin Buskas spent years inside one of Edmonton's leading high-end custom home builders, first as project manager from 2015 to 2018, then as a partner from 2018 to 2022. He learned the systems. He saw what worked. He saw what didn't. And eventually, he outgrew the shell.
​
In 2022, Devin took everything he'd learned, every system, every process, every hard-won lesson and built something of his own. Something smaller, tighter, and entirely his. JAQ Custom Projects exists because Devin wanted to build the way he believed homes should be built: hands-on, line-by-line, and with one promise running through every project.

Devin Buskas
Devin's career didn't start in a boardroom. It started on commercial construction sites in high school, moved through framing crews, and grew through years as an independent contractor before he stepped into custom home building full-time.

In 2014 and 2015 he attended NAIT for his Project Management Professional designation — the foundation for the systems that now run every JAQ project. From 2015 through 2022 he managed and then partnered in one of Edmonton's leading luxury custom home companies, before founding JAQ Custom Projects in 2022.

Today, Devin is personally involved in every project JAQ takes on. He's on the site, in the drawings, on the phone with trades, and on the final walkthrough with you. That's not a marketing line — it's the whole reason JAQ exists.

We also believe a client's home should be respected like our own. We want to see our clients in the grocery store five years after handover and stop to talk about how the home is treating them. We want them to be proud of what we built together, because we are too.

We are not a production builder, and we are not trying to be one. JAQ is intentionally small. Our whole team can fit in one vehicle — and that is by design, not by accident.

It means Devin is personally on your project, not managing it from a desk across town. It means the people who quote your build are the same people who build it. It means decisions get made fast, communication stays direct, and accountability never gets passed down the line.

It also means we take on a limited number of projects each year. We would rather build a small number of homes brilliantly than a large number of homes adequately. That is the trade-off — and for the clients we work best with, it is exactly the right one.

We also back every project with our own 2-year bumper-to-bumper in-house warranty, which means small issues get handled directly by the team that built your home.
